He made a long eulogy on his dog Tiger | Nathaniel Hawthorne’s journal entry for August 26th, 1838

Biblioklept

A rough-looking, sunburnt, soiled-shirted, odd, middle-aged little man came to the house a day or two ago, seeking work. He had come from Ohio, and was returning to his native place, somewhere in New England, stopping occasionally to earn money to pay his way. There was something rather ludicrous in his physiognomy and aspect. He was very free to talk with all and sundry. He made a long eulogy on his dog Tiger, yesterday, insisting on his good moral character, his not being quarrelsome, his docility, and all other excellent qualities that a huge, strong, fierce mastiff could have. Tiger is the bully of the village, and keeps all the other dogs in awe. His aspect is very spirited, trotting massively along, with his tail elevated and his head likewise. “When he sees a dog that’s anything near his size, he’s apt to growl a little,”–Tiger had the marks of a…

Was it just a dream?~by rldubour

OUR POETRY CORNER

Was it just a dream?

Image result for Was it just a dream? heaven

“Why?” is not a question I will ever say.
For now I sleep~ and of heaven I will dream.
Hear the Angel’s voice? ~ Like poetry it seems.
She speaks of life beyond my mortal day.
I must be dreaming~ as she leads me away.
Allowed to look around feeling self esteem.
I see many faces~ with their eyes agleam.
The pain now gone~ I fall to my knees to pray.

As I kneel~ I can hear my brother’s voice say.
“Come with me now~ everyone is here waiting.”
I know it’s Heaven everything is right.
I heard another voice but said I could not stay.
My eyes now open~ I was only dreaming.
I wonder?~ Was it more than a dream last night?

PODERIA A MATEMÁTICA MENTAL IMPULSIONAR A SAÚDE EMOCIONAL?

A parte central

Laion Monteiro

34 Minutes

Heed not Steve

Two nights ago, I set my phone to wake me at 3:15am (1:15am Arizona time) so I could catch the 4am shuttle to the airport.

Yay, going home!

But, booo!  That’s so early, right?

It’s early, sure, but, fear not!

I didn’t actually wake up so early.

No.

Instead, I slept through my alarm.

yeah

I don’t quite know what happened there.  Did I turn it off in my sleep?  Did I just sleep through it?

I need a scientist to study this.

Anyhow, luckily, I half-woke before the shuttle departed.  I glanced at my room’s alarm clock and couldn’t decipher what I saw:

3:49

What?

3:49?  What does that….

OH CRAP!

I total-woke.

I jumped out of bed, turned on the lights, got dressed, slapped some pomade in my hair, packed all my toiletries, gathered and packed all my electronic devices, gathered and packed all the charging cables for…

Amazingly well preserved 3,500-year-old lunch box discovered in Swiss Alps

Ancientfoods

By Martha Henriques

The wooden box still has traces of the grains it carried in 1500 BCE.

An incredibly rare wooden container from the Bronze Age has been discovered on the Lötschberg mountain in Switzerland, still with detectable traces of the grains that the box contained.

The box was found at the summit of the Lötschenpass, a transit through a glacier, at an elevation of about 2,650 metres above sea level. It’s thought to have remained frozen since it was lost or abandoned by its owner in 1500 BCE.

Such discoveries are rare. Only one other similar artefact has been discovered, found in another alpine pass, the Schnidejoch, about 25km to the west of the Lötschenpass. Perhaps the most famous discovery from the ice-packed Alps is Ötzi the iceman, a human discovered dating from about 3300 BCE.

Analysis of the box showed traces of spelt, emmer and barley, according…
